Dolls have been around for thousands of years. Little girls for centuries have enjoyed playing with their porcelain, cloth, vinyl, wood, and clay dolls. Dolls are no longer for young girls as adult women of all ages have started paying hundreds, even thousands of dollars for collectible reborn dolls.

The very popular lifelike “reborn” dolls have been around since the 1990s. These dolls were first created and sold in the United States but have since become popular worldwide. News and TV shows about them have only increased their popularity.

A reborn artist spends many hours creating these lifelike baby dolls. The dolls are painstakingly hand painted, one layer at a time, to create a lifelike skin tone. The remarkable realism takes dozens of layers of heat set paint. Starting with the tiny veins and capillaries and finishing off with mottled spots make a truly realistic newborn baby skin. Realistic glass or acrylic eyes are used as well as actual eyelashes. The reborn doll’s hair is individually rooted, called micro-rooting, one to two hairs at a time. Mothers who lose a baby grieve and ache to hold their child. I started making memorial reborn babies when I lost my own baby. I create the baby based on photos taken of the child or if there are no photos I can base it on the baby’s siblings photos or the hair and eye color of the parents if there are no other children.

Some of the memorial reborn babies I make I add a tiny bit of the baby’s cremated ashes inside the arms so that when mom is holding the baby and stroking the baby’s arms she is really holding her own child. The baby’s hair can also be incorporated into the doll. We don’t need much. We can use as much of the ashes or hair as you would like.

These babies are made with all of the love in my heart. Knowing the pain of losing a child I know how therapeutic a memorial reborn baby doll can be.

It is a beautiful way to honor the brief time these precious angels spent on earth.

The angel babies can be made the size of a preemie or the size of a newborn. We can make the baby to resemble a photo of your baby or we can make the doll to resemble what your child may have looked like at full term.
