The very popular lifelike “reborn” dolls have been around since the 1990s. These dolls were first created and sold in the United States but have since become popular worldwide. News and TV shows about them have only increased their popularity.

A reborn artist spends many hours creating these lifelike baby dolls. The dolls are painstakingly hand painted, one layer at a time, to create a lifelike skin tone. The remarkable realism takes dozens of layers of heat set paint. Starting with the tiny veins and capillaries and finishing off with mottled spots make a truly realistic newborn baby skin. Realistic glass or acrylic eyes are used as well as actual eyelashes. The reborn doll’s hair is individually rooted, called micro-rooting, one to two hairs at a time. Very fine soft Mohair is used on the doll to create the look and feel of real baby’s hair. You can wash it, style it, and spray it with baby conditioner to make it smell like real babies hair. Their bodies are soft and weighted with rubber pellets, micro glass beads, and sometimes sand. However, sand is not recommended as it can not be taken or shipped into many foreign countries and will not make it thru customs.
